If you like: CATS

I think all people like cats to some degree. And if not the animal itself, then the hilarious pictures like the one above of cats doing human things. So if you like cats, here are a few good books that have something to do with them. 

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: Lewis Carroll- This book features a famous feline- the Cheshire cat. That strange, otherworldly smile is a sign of something wrong in Wonderland. Click here to read the adventure. 

The Looking Glass Wars: Frank Beddor- In the same vein as the one above, this is a twist on Carroll's original, where Wonderland is a real place, and Alice is Alyss, a scared princess trapped in our world, who only wants to get back to her home and defeat her evil aunt Redd and Redd's minion, The Cat. Yes, this Cat is a deadly assassin, not a fluffy little kitten that bits at your hands. Read it to see what I mean. 

Life of Pi: Yann Martel- Maybe you saw the movie. Maybe you just saw a preview. But did you realize that the hit movie of a few years ago is based on a book? Yes, you can find more of that gorgeous tiger by clicking here to get it from the library.

Monday Meme Spotlight: Not-So-Wonderland

     I was never one who loved Alice in Wonderland- not the classic story, at least. Even for my imagination, it was a little bit too crazy. Sometimes that happens- a book is so out there that even though it's a classic, you can't really wrap your head around it. And then I found some books that took Alice's world and twisted it into something wholly different, something amazing. Now, I haven't read all of these series, but I have on good authority that they're very good, and most of them are on my read list. So here are a few Alice-twists that caught my eye.

1. The Looking Glass Wars- Frank Beddor: This is hands-down my favorite adaptation. It took total nonsense and turned it into something I could wrap my head around- still wild, still fantastic, but utterly thrilling. Alyss is swept away from Wonderland and tells her story to Carroll, hoping that someone will come find her, take her home. And they do- only to be challenged by the Cat, the personal assassin of the Queen of Hearts and wrapped in a dangerous game of imagination and a struggle for the throne. It's exhilarating, unique, entrancing- any number of words, and I highly recommend all three books in the series. You can find them by clicking here.

2. The Splintered series- A.G. Howard: This is a series that I think about a lot. I haven't read it yet, but the covers of all three books catch my eye every time I look at them. It's a tale of madness and is darker than you might expect, but I've heard good things, and the first book is a nominee for one of KHCPL's current teen displays- the Elliot Rosewater Award. 3. The White Rabbit Chronicles- Gena Showalter: This is a retelling that I'm not very familiar with (not a zombie fan) but I've heard good things from a former coworker. The synopsis is vague, the concept could be interesting, but it's up to you to decide. I personally am more interested in the previous two series, but of course it's your decision. 4. Heartless- Marissa Meyer: Okay, this one isn't released yet, and it probably won't be until next year sometime, but I'm so excited I have to include it. It's a prequel about the Queen of Hearts and how she became what she is, written by the same author that writes the Lunar Chronicles (Cinder, Scarlet, Fairest, Winter). I love those books, and I love the concept, so I'm really hoping it's amazing.

     So whatever you think about Alice in Wonderland, keep on believing and don't let the man get you down, whatever that actually means. And just remember-
